To understand this novel application, imagine that each card deck has 13 cards "marked" on their back side with N, 13 cards "marked" on their back side with E, 13 cards "marked" on their back side with S, and 13 cards "marked" on their back side with W so that everyone can get the right cards, even if the cards are in random order.OTDB requires you to think this way: by following the computer's instructions, the "dealer" can see the imaginary "marks" and tell who should receive each card in the deck and distribute the cards accordingly. Before the first hand of the day is dealt, the Host prepares one of the 2 decks that will be used, by naming all the cards, so that the deck is ready for the first "deal". With the Host's help, OTDB **virtually** marks each card for the "dealer". That is, before the cards are dealt, Host identifies to the computer each of the 52 cards, by tapping or clicking the card's icon on the screen. The word "dealer" is in quotes because the person who does so is not the board's official dealer and because the process used is unlike the usual clockwise placement of cards; instead, the cards are distributed to the players in the order dictated by the virtual marks North, South, East, and West.
OTDB has 4 major steps (0123), done in the following order: 0 Get the boards - done only once by the Host before card play 1 Name the cards - done by the Host, with deck X 2 Choose the board - done by any player, with deck X 3 Cut and deal the cards - done by any player, with deck X 1 Name the cards - done by the dummy, with deck Y 2 Choose the board - done by any player, with deck Y 3 Cut and deal the cards - done by any player, with deck Y 1 Name the cards - done by the dummy, with deck X 2 Choose the board - done by any player, with deck X 3 Cut and deal the cards - done by any player, with deck X 1 Name the cards - done by the dummy, with deck Y 2 Choose the board - done by any player, with deck Y 3 Cut and deal the cards - done by any player, with deck Y (repeat as needed)
You may have noticed that the previous page was numbered (0) and this page is numbered (-1). The usual process is to progress through the pages by clicking on the button in the RIGHT upper corner each time a page is completed. Clicking on that button will lead to the natural sequence of repeating pages (1), (2), and (3) for each deal because page (0) is only a setup page to collect all of the boards at once. (So the upper right button on page (3) takes you to page (1), not page (0).) Generally, the button on the upper LEFT corner of each page takes you back a page and that is an unusual thing to do.
Help for each of the numbered steps above are given on the bottom of the corresponding page numbered 0 through 3.
"North" on the board should be dealt to the player sitting North at the table, and likewise for the other positions. But the "(3) Cut and Deal" screen page is oriented as if South is the dealer for all boards, regardless of the board's "Dealer". So, if you are using a device with a rotatable screen, especially for dealing the cards in step 3, it may be handy to rotate the screen to reorient the "North" position to correspond better to where "North" is sitting at the table.
